A Little Bit of the British

A Little Bit of the British

James Patterson’s Story

One enormous cat scoping out a place to call home. One massive cat checking out humans, but a new place to call home. His name is Buck Rogers, and he is a major player in the future of another cat. After checking and approving the humans and location, this handsome Main Coon brings another smaller cat to check out a new home. This cat is dark gray. The humans at the sanctuary think he’s a Prussian Blue with short hair. The humans at the sanctuary almost mistake him for a Prussian Blue. Buck Rogers brought this gentleman in. It was obvious; he had already told him this would be their new home. As humans got a better look at this guy, they realized he was a British Shorthair, and like Buck Rogers, he was a purebred cat. It is still a mystery why someone would dump these handsome boys, but they did. Well, it was apparent the sanctuary was adding two cats to the roster with the new arrival. The gray boy made himself right at home, as if he had lived here his whole life, but it still took Buck Rogers a bit of time to “sign on the dotted line.” Sister took the time to talk to him as the cat whisperer she is, and Tiger Man, as a head therapist, also spent some time with him. Sister, aka Dorothy, found out he likes mystery and detective-type names as he likes to explore the world. She suggested several names, like Tom Clancy, Clive Cussler, etc. Then he said James Patterson, and that was without question the one he fell in love with. James Patterson was now home at his new FUR-EVER home. He started exploring and checking out all the high spots inside and outside, which proves these kids are “tree kitties.” Mr. Patterson is a smaller cat than Buck Rogers, but he’s not finished growing. He became almost the size of Buck when he finished. He demonstrates that it is simply more for HIS humans to love. As he falls into his routine, the humans find that Ms. Callie, Ms. Grace, and Ms. Anne take him under their wing to teach him something most male cats don’t do, and they find he has an interest in the 17 kittens who came into the sanctuary. Not as something to beat up or kill, but as something to love and keep an eye on. The girls teach him how to watch over, coax, love, and protect them. They also make sure the other cats, male and female, know how special this big boy is. When watching this guy with the kittens, one realizes he likes to play with them. As he protects them along with Buck while they are outside, you see him flick his tail to entice the kittens to attack and play with it. He looks back at them, and if you look closely, you can see a smile on his face. When he is “on duty,” none of the female cats worry about any kittens in their charge because they know he is there to take care of them. He also teaches the older kittens what is called the “two-tree” rule about not getting near the street. A very smart, loving teacher and protector.

Regrettably, some new neighbors moved in by the Sanctuary, and what had been such a safe, friendly area for all the cats became a VERY unsafe area. Before anyone knew what was going on, someone over there attacked Mr. Patterson, and according to Dr. Mike, he was severely kicked many times, which caused internal injuries that subsequently killed him. He crossed the Rainbow Bridge and was buried by his cat friends before his humans could give him a proper grave, but those who loved him still buried him. He will always have a special place in all of us at the Sanctuary. If the humans could, we would buy the property and name it after him, as he has been a very special part of the team. The Story of A… Bobcat?

The Story of A… Bobcat?

Buck Rogers’ Story

What’s Big? Huge? Gigantic? And gray and white? And Purrs? When first seen by a neighbor as it moved through the woods, they saw it through a spotting scope. He thought it was a bobcat. Then another neighbor saw him on her back porch, looking up at her as if asking for food. She thought the same thing. They both asked Mark, JoAnn, and Dorothy if they had seen a bobcat, and told them about their experiences. Later that day, Mark set out some food for this mystery cat. The first time they saw the mystery cat was at lunch the next day when it accepted the food. After a few days of patience, some food and milk, and some gentle talking, Mark gets to pet this big cat. It turns out it’s not a bobcat, but a huge cat. A few days later, this cat escorts another cat into the sanctuary to meet Mark. This one turns out to be a British Shorthair known as James Patterson. (Read His story next week). This huge cat was inspecting them before inviting a friend in. But the fact that both of these cats are purebred is peculiar. The humans learn that this huge kid is a full-blooded Maine Coon over the following few weeks, which explains why some people mistake him for a bobcat. Shortly after he drops his buddy off, he decides the humans are safe enough to talk to, and he decides to spend more time with Mark and Dorothy. He is not sure about JoAnn because of her higher energy level. Don’t rush him. When Dorothy stops to chat with this large cat while she is out in the wilderness, she discovers he was abandoned about four months ago. His companion was abandoned about a month later, so they had some time to spend in the wilderness before contacting anyone. Following that conversation, Mark and his friend encouraged him to go inside, where he found more love and food and another bowl of milk just for him. At that point, he decides he likes this and “signs on the dotted line”. A few days later, with the cat whisperer’s help, Dorothy, he decided on a space adventure name and takes the name, Buck Rogers.

From this point forward, he and his buddy, James Patterson, became inseparable. They go out and around the grounds, checking on the other cats and kittens. They ensure everyone, including their humans, is safe. The cats expect daily loving sessions with all three humans. And of course, there are three meals and a bowl of milk daily. On, and “Concoctions” Wet food every Saturday.

After about eighteen months, Buck hears the call and heads back into the woods behind the sanctuary and starts spending more time back there with a feral cat colony. He now oversees the colony full-time, and we do not see him much anymore. We get reports about him through a friend whose porch he visits regularly. The big problem is we still have not found the colony, so we could call a TNR Group to work with us on spaying, neutering, and health checks. One day, though. Buck, keep in touch. We love you.

Princess’ Story

It’s not Halloween, Christmas, or Easter, so who shows up dressed as if ready to go out as royalty?

A little cat dumped on Sanctuary property a few years ago. She comes all dressed up, including her own crown on her head and her own magnificent cape. Come to find out she is also a hypoallergenic cat. Perfect if you love cats, but are allergic to them. This little girl is not only dressed like royalty, but acts like royalty. But she rules with love. Whoever duped this beautiful girl at the Sanctuary, the humans say thank you because you do not know what you had in a precious bundle of fur. When she came into the house in Sister’s arms, Dorothy was not sure what to think. However, when she was greeted by Boost and Toby, she realized she had made some new pals. Even though they were relatively new employees at the Sanctuary, they were assisting her to settle in.

After a few days, Sister told this little bundle of fur that the humans did not want to just say “Hey Cat” whenever they called, so she would like to help select a name. Sister is the first to notice this cat come fully dressed up, just like Toby and Boost, the first Tuxedo Cat at the Sanctuary. She said, “You look like a little Princess or Queen” and the cat said, “let me think about it.” She did, and the next day we dubbed her the sanctuary’s little princess. Take a good look at her to see what we mean. Like any royal princess, she is extremely privileged, and she is aware of this. You, the human, will ensure that she has a clean bowl for meals, goat’s milk or half-and-half served at her ideal temperature and HER station just for her. Other cats can have the big trays or their own bowls, but NOT near the Princess. Just little things like that. But for all that spoiling, she gives back lots of love in her own way. Above all to her Daddy, Mark. When Daddy lies down on the bed, she wants to be the principal attraction, right on his chest, where she can love him on the face and neck while he gives her kitty love. If he is at his desk or workstation, she challenges Ms. Toppie for his attention, not wanting to admit there is enough Daddy to go around. But Daddy gives both lots of loving, so neither feels left out. They spread daddy thin when they want his attention. Daddy’s girls want to have his attention all the time: #1A Ms. Boots, #1B Agatha, and #1C Ms. Princess. What can we say? They love their daddy. All these kids consider the Sanctuary their FUR-EVER home, so they will always have their dad. He has discovered, however, that if he doesn’t occasionally let the kids “help” with his tasks, they won’t be pleased.

Sadly, we have lost one of Daddy’s girls recently. Ms. Agatha, our Viking Warrior Princess, went over The Rainbow Bridge on January 8, 2019. Humans and cats will sorely miss her, as she was a special part of the Sanctuary. If we lose any cat, it hurts, don’t get us wrong. But some cats just get a little special spot in the heart. It hurts a little more when you lose them. Like Ms. Princess, all the kids are special to us. We try to give them an environment they can come to and heal both physically and mentally. That includes lots of human love. Some, like Ms. Princess, decide to stay FUR-EVER, while others like to move on to new FUR-EVER Homes. Adopted must sign a contract, though, saying if they want to get rid of the cat, they MUST return to the Sanctuary for re-homing or become a permanent resident. We do not condemn them for this decision, because we know life happens, but the cat’s safety and well-being are our number one concern.

Princess made the decision that this would be her new FUR-EVER home, and they spoiled her humans while also spoiling them.

Adventures of Donna Noble

My name is Donna, Donna Noble. I come from a farm life where we cats have to work for our living, the true no work, no eat mentality. So, I eventually met this man who frequently visited the farm for milk and eggs. I approached him directly and motioned for him to take me home. We irrevocably changed my life when he picked me up. My coronation as Queen of the Pride will take place in a few weeks by Ms. Tituba, our fourteen-year-old leader. I am now in charge of this insane pride alongside our King, Jules Verne. But let’s go back to right after I arrived here.

It’s a nice summer day, and I am out in the yard chasing butterflies. I am only about ten to twelve weeks old, but have the attitude of a six-month-old where “anything is possible” and “I am invincible”. Ms. Ella, the nanny of the pride, is watching over us as we kittens play, and some bigger males are watching the perimeter. I look over toward the driveway and see our giant British Short hair, James Patterson, standing guard, and decide to have some fun. I dash over as if to attack his tail when he turns his enormous head my way, as if to say’ I see you’, so I put the brakes on and quickly turn away as if nothing happened.

Mr. Patterson turns back to watch for anything coming in, so I start again and am joined by one of the other kittens. By this time, I have drawn the attention of our hunting teacher of beginners, Ms. Grace Livingston Hill, and her daughter Ann Shirley, advanced hunting teacher. We prepare for our attack, but not a butterfly this time. My buddy and I attack Mr. “P”. One from each side, just above his tail. We find out why he is called one of the ‘Gentle Giants’ as he just turns over to play swat with us. This goes on for about ten minutes, and my attack buddy and they wore me out. We curl up on each side of Mr. Patterson for a nice catnap to recharge.

After approximately thirty minutes, Ms. Ella comes over to me and comments that Ms. Grace is looking for me. The performance for this week is all I discuss with her on the porch, but the following week, I prepare for hunting under her instruction. I also learn that in a few short weeks, our ruler, Ms. Tituba, will summon me inside to meet with her because she has something special planned for my future. All Ms. Grace will say is that the Sanctuary is my permanent home, thus starting my new life at Crazy Cat Sanctuary & Black Cat Rescue. Me, a little teeny ball of golden yellow fur barely larger than my new daddy’s hand.

I learn to hunt, at first small mice and baby moles. Then small rabbits and finally birds. Now the fun begins. I am in the kitchen with several other larger kittens, Tiger Man and Jules Verne. We hear something moving behind the rear board of the cabinet. Tiger Man and Jules Verne are on the cabinet, and we kittens are following the sound on the floor. Jules moves to the stove and starts cocking his head to get a fix on the noise, and Tiger Man does the same thing halfway between the sink and stove. As Tiger Man tries to get a better fix on the noise, he dives for the floor at the corner of the stove. All the humans see is a blur of cat fur. The next thing they see is me in hot pursuit of something small and furry with a tail. My sister informs me as I stand up that I have successfully captured Kamikaze Mice, the most elusive rodent on the property. After I have a snack, she sets up a kitty celebration, and that’s when I find out the other cats have been trying to catch that mouse for about nine weeks now. I caught it on my first indoor hunt. The next day, I meet Ms. Tituba, that straight from Jules Verne, Pride Leader, and King.

The next morning after breakfast, I met with Ms. Tituba in the presence of Jules Verne, Tiger Man, Tiger Tye, and Sister, or should I say, Mom. My new human mom. During this encounter, I learn from Her Highness that I will soon take the throne as Queen of the Pride, and that Dorothy is now regarded as my mother formally and with her approval. Only one other cat has had that honor, and she has gone over the Rainbow Bridge. I’ll get to meet Ms. Madeline, a.k.a. Ms. Maddy, one day. I will take her place as the queen, but not as a replacement part. I bring myself to the position, and Ms. Maddy still has her place in the heart. Time for another kitty celebration, for sure.

Lunch that day was not the usual kibble. It was part kibble, kibble with concoctions of wet food mixed in, and we all ate until we were full and content. It was Party Time to celebrate the new queen being chosen. That mix is only used for what humans call holidays, like Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year, and other special occasions… like this. Of course, we have our names for them, but we still love the treat. The nicest part is that we can celebrate together with our humans. I even use my particular bowl for these occasions. Well, that’s how a little kitten becomes the pride queen of a cat sanctuary. Time for me to talk to the King and mom about the newest arrivals, and to find out what is on the schedule for lunch, wet or dry. Either way, our humans are just as picky about what we eat as we are. Thank you, Ms. Boots, for being our dietitian. You can check out her story here.

Hide & Seek: The Story of An Abused Cat: Ms. Boots Story

The following story is one reason Crazy Cat Sanctuary and Black Cat Rescue exist.

Hi, my name is Ms. Boots. I would not be here telling this story if it were not for a team effort between a sweet lady named Monica Webb and Crazy Cat Sanctuary and Black Cat Rescue. My family has no idea what might have happened to me prior to Ms. Monica discovering me at Meade County Animal Control, but it was not pleasant. I didn’t exhibit any evidence of physical abuse, but by the way I responded to them, I could tell they had struck me, and I showed signs of verbal abuse by the way I handled loud noises.

I was squished in the rear of a cage at Animal Control when Ms. Monica discovered me, and because I refused to come forward in the cage for any reason, I was labeled as not adoptable. She saw me and took me home with her. For the next two months, I was a scared little kitty, holding behind her washer and dryer or out in the back corners of her garage. This was no life for a little kitty. Ms. Monica wasn’t certain, but she had a suspicion that I was being beaten and yelled at because of something I was powerless to stop. She wasn’t sure why I would make a tiny mess wherever I went.

Ms. Monica was talking to the people at a shelter for abused or abandoned cats, and she informed them about me. The man I now call Daddy Mark said, said let’s meet and see about getting this little girl down to CSBCR. Sister, Dorothy, Daddy, and Ms. Monica met at Subway in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, and Ms. Monica introduced them to me. I was once again a scared little kitty in the back of a cage. Upon our arrival at my new home at the Sanctuary, they introduced me to two therapists who would help me through the first part of my healing, while the humans dug into my primary problem of leaving little messes. The therapists are a brother-sister team, Tiger Man and Tiger Tye. Once I got out of my travel cage, I immediately searched for a place to hide and found one behind a washer and dryer. These humans took it in stride. They made sure I always had access to fresh food, water, and a cat box near the front of the washing and dryer set. At the Animal Clinic in Greensburg, Kentucky, I frequently received visits from Tiger Man and Tiger Tye, who helped me with my emotional problems while the humans spoke with Dr. Mike. The big issue they figured out, I am grain intolerant. I cannot digest the grains used in cat food, wet or dry. My tiny messes ended when I tried some grain-free Rachel Ray’s Nutrish. What was good about it all was that I received a lot of affection and was treated like a cute little kitten with a minor issue. Today I eat Nutrish, Health Extension, and Meow Mix (when they had a grain free), with Abound Wet Food and a Bit of Blue Buffalo wet food as a holiday treat for Catmas. I start my day with a bowl full of kibbles and a little sliver of Abound Wet Food, oh and no fish as I am allergic to fish too, and then lunch and supper are kibbles. Less little messes. Oh, and no dairy, i.e. milk, yogurt, cheese, etc…, for me either. Instead, I get Coconut Milk Creamers. My favorite is Sweet Cream Coconut Milk Creamer. I get Sweet Cream Coconut Milk Creamer, while the other cats get half-and-half as you use in coffee or goat’s milk.

In the Spring of 2018, my next trial came about, but thankfully Dr. Mike told my humans I just had an inner ear infection, and we got it treated. I have some ongoing health issues related to the inner ear infection. If you look at my picture, you will see I continue to be leaning and have my head cocked at an odd angle. The infection has led to this. It scared me for a while, but one of the other cats did. Mr. Goldberg had gone through this issue, and he is still one crafty, loving cat. They helped me through my problems and showed me I can still be myself. Daddy had ramps installed for Goldberg so he could enter and exit the house, as well as descend from the deck to the ground. Today, many of us still use these ramps. “You’re welcome, Ms. Boots,” and “Thanks, Dad.” I’ve been working at CCSBCR for a few years, so I’m no longer the timid cat cowering behind the washer and dryer. I am a cat that is aware of what she wants and who to get it from. You might not see me when you visit, but I will be observing you and judging you. My First Home Ever? The Sanctuary, of course. (Our First Foster Fail)

If you want to help cats and kittens like us, head over to (Ko-Fi button) here to find out how. You can even become a monthly sponsor of one of us who calls the Sanctuary our FUR-EVER home, like me.

Now, for breakfast. “Sister, you did not do this right. It’s supposed to be a quarter cup of Nutrish and a sliver of Abound Wet Food, and you forgot the sliver AGAIN!!!”

“Sorry, Ms. Boots, I will get it right now, ma’am.”

Humans always got to keep my eye on them.”

“Here you go Ms. Boots, your Sliver.”

“Thank You, Sister.”

And that’s my story.

Sincerely, Ms. Boots. (cat paw)

CEJ What is it?: Covetousness, Envy, Jealousy

Covetousness

Envy

Jealousy

How are they connected?

Jealousy is the base emotion. Like anger has three levels so does jealousy.

Jealousy causes envy and covetousness. What does the Bible say on this topic?

DON’T DO IT!!

Don’t be jealous of others.

Don’t envy others.

Don’t be covetous of others.

Wrath is cruel and anger a torrent, but who is able to stand before jealousy? Proverbs 27:4 (NK JV)

True who can stand before envy? Envy starts with tiny jealous thoughts and will always end with the actions of covetousness.

You can stare down an angry person, but who can stand against envy?

How many times have you walked away with your tail between your legs and ready to week because of a comment done by an envious person?

Why would you want someone else to feel that way?

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 1 Corinthians 13:4 (NIV)

Why not have love instead of CEJ? In other words, why not love that person, be happy for that person then be covetous over that person’s belongings, envy that person’s relationships, or be jealous over something in the other person’s life?

Love ignores the things man covets, man envies, and man is jealous of. Be charitable, not full of jealousy. Stuff is just stuff. Oh, she has a cat I want a better one. K… Go to a shelter and get one only because it is God’s creation to love and cherish not out of ugly jealousy. The cat deserves better.

Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another. Galatians 5:26 (KJV)

Do let your ego grow so large you have to attack others or think you have to have what others have to be happy. Happiness and contentment must be found where you are. Each day we need to be looking for the blessings and encouraging each other not living with CEJ

Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good. Romans 12:21 (KJV)

Where does this say to be CEJ? We are to overcome and defeat CEJ! Are you going to let Satan win or are you going to let God? Take your pick. Blessings and Encouragement or a boulder on your heart?

Give me a desire for your rules, rather than for wealth gained unjustly. Psalms 119:36 (NET)

Our testimony is what matters not what other people have. Things are just things.

I want that car, cell phone, boyfriend, etc…

NOT GOOD!

What matters is that you the Christian have a loving Master that will take care of our needs and who is preparing us for our new home in Heaven.

A ruler who takes much from the people who have little does not have understanding. But he who hates wanting something that belongs to someone else will live a long time Proverbs 28:16 (NLV)

Ah, one thing we are to hate. We are raised not to hate, but they forget there is one thing we are to hate and that is what our Master hates. Our Master hates sin and covetousness is sin. Therefore, we are to hate covetousness.

The time is coming when all their captives will taunt them, saying: You robbers! At last justice has caught up with you! Now you will get your just deserts for your oppression and extortion! Habakkuk 2:6 (NLT)

How long before your covetousness catches up with you? How long before you put up such a wall that you are isolated from everything and everyone? From those that can make a difference in your life. From those whom you can make a difference. Most importantly from Jesus Christ who loves you and wants to hold you in his arms. Who wants to be in your life? Who wants to save you from sin and hell?

From that time on, Judas watched for an opportunity to betray Jesus to them. Matthew 26:16 (LBT)

Will you sell your soul to Satan? Are you sure? Are you sure from the very depths of your being? Do you covet you just might? You risk giving your heart over to covetousness.

So check your heart regularly to see if you have fallen into the trap of covetousness.

And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth. Luke 12:15 (KJV)

This warning comes too late for many these days. But that doesn’t mean they cannot turn from it. Look at our churches these days. Some think they have to have that fancy cat, big house, or expensive clothes. Many people overwork to get a stupid promotion. So many put work and things before God and family. Many make excuses to not spend private time with God to go fishing, golfing, etc…? Are you one of these people?

Do not work for the food that disappears, but for the food that remains to eternal life–the food which the Son of Man will give to you. For God the Father has put his seal of approval on him. “Do not work for the food that disappears, but for the food that remains to eternal life–the food which the Son of Man will give to you. For God the Father has put his seal of approval on him.” John 6:27 (KJV)

This is how we are supposed to be. Our labor is to be towards the mission God gave us. Our labor is to be always growing stronger in the Lord. All other labor is in vain. Our income is our Master’s. Our things all belong to Him. He allows us to have things. But for each these things are different. Your car may be a Model T or Jalopy and your house may be a hut. Your house may be a mansion and your car a limo. No matter what it all belongs to God and is to be used for His glory. If it is a mansion find a means to use it for God. The same goes for the limo, Model T, jalopy, and hut.

But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints; 4 neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks. Ephesians 5:3-4 (NK JV)

Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. Colossians 3:5 (NIV)

Don’t give into sin, but instead give thanks to God for all you have.

For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. 1 Timothy 6:7 (NIV)

This is what matters. Being like Christ, depending on Christ, loving Christ, obeying Christ, and becoming one with Christ will bring contentment. Can worldly things do that? NO!

Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said,

“Never will I leave you;

never will I forsake you.”

Hebrews 13:5 (NIV)

Do not even say you would like what another has. Do not even think it either. This only leads to being covetous and moving away from the Master. Instead of moving closer to our Master and keeping our focus on being good and faithful servants, we protect our hearts and our relationship with Jesus Christ… This will bring contentment, true contentment. This will also bring hope, peace, faith, love, and so much more.

Things or rather coveting things will only bring stress, discontentment, etc….

A quality relationship with God will bring love, peace, joy, contentment, and so much more…Covetousness

Envy
